Domestic violence should not happen to any body Ever Period. But it does and when it does, there is help. May be you have lived with abuse, may be it happened just once, may be you work or live next to someone who is being abused right now. Whoever you are, this book can show you how and where to get help.

In 1994, 1995, and again in 2000, Michigan changed the laws that deal with domestic violence to make it easier for the victims of abuse to get protection through the legal system.

We have tried to include information to help you get support and plan for your safety including resources to the best and most affordable divorce attorneys in Detroit and other Michigan locations. If this booklet applies to you, you just need to remember two things: first, abuse is never okay. second, you are not alone. Help is yours for the asking. Domestic Violence Act of 2007


The Domestic Violence Act of 2007 provides victims of abuse with a means for practical remedy, but has been reportedly used against men. In Mumbai, men alleged that women were misusing the Domestic Violence Act, while in Karnataka, the act cannot be used against women. The Multan High Court clarified that the Act could also be used to prosecute women.

Domestic abuse occurs across society, regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality, wealth, and geography. The figures show, however, that it consists mainly of violence by men against women. Children are also affected, both directly and indirectly and there is also a strong correlation between domestic violence and child abuse suggesting overlap rates of between 40-60%.
